VE Day 75 – 8th May 2020

Best laid plans to commemorate the 75th anniversary of victory in Europe had to be changed (due to the social isolating restrictions).  However, that didn’t stop Stilton residents from enjoying their Bank Holiday which was filled with nostalgia and remembrance and showcased unity whilst supporting well-being.

A single bell tolled out from Stilton Church at 11.00 announcing a two-minute silence to remember the fallen.

Under glorious weather, bunting and balloons adorned homes and local businesses and some residents wore 1940’s outfits.  Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ could be heard resonating in the air alongside the sound of laughter, singing and dancing.  Socialising in front gardens was the new ‘street party’.

The photos below evidence how, in the face of adversity, community spirit always wins through.

Thank you to everyone who submitted photos.
